Ser Padres magazine announced today that Telemundo reporter Sofia Lachapelle will serve as a regular blogger on SerPadres.com to share her experiences as a mom to two kids with autism. The blog, “El Diario de Sofia,” will feature monthly articles on everything from advice on supporting a special needs family to her family’s personal journey as they learn how to cope with autism.

Lachapelle is an autism advocate and recently launched “Un Paso a La Vez,” or “One Step at a Time,” a non-profit organization dedicated to informing, guiding and lending support to Latino parents who have children with special needs.

“After my sons Jayson and Maximus were diagnosed with autism, it became my goal to find a way to improve the quality of life for those living with the disorder and the families supporting them,” says Lachapelle. “SerPadres.com is the perfect platform to share my message because millions of Hispanic parents rely on the brand to discover the latest information on raising a healthy and happy family.

“We received tremendously positive feedback after Sofia, her children and her organization were featured in the April issue of Ser Padres,” says the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Alberto Oliva. “It became clear that our readers related to Sofia’s story and wanted to learn more.”

In her first post, which debuted on July 22, 2014, Lachapelle narrates her emotions as she first learned of her sons’ autism diagnosis and how she ultimately came to embrace her new, special family.
